IEEE Launches International Standards for Hydrogen-Powered UAVs

On October 27, 2025, the Inaugural Meeting of the IEEE P1958 Standards Working Group and the First Session of the IEEE Joint Working Group on Hydrogen-Powered UAV Series Standards were successfully held at Tianmushan Laboratory.

Academic representatives from Peking University, Xi'an Jiaotong University and other institutions of higher learning, along with technical experts and industry elites from industrial associations, international standards organizations and hydrogen energy-related enterprises, gathered together to jointly discuss and advance the implementation of the IEEE P1958 Standard and its series of sub-standards, helping China seize the initiative in formulating international rules in the hydrogen energy sector.

This meeting focused on the advancement of international standards for hydrogen-powered UAVs, aligned the standard-setting process with the actual needs of the industry, prioritized addressing the lack of sector-specific standards, and established normative frameworks and technical directions for subsequent work.

The meeting encouraged upstream and downstream entities in the hydrogen-powered UAV industry to join relevant IEEE standardization technical committees. It marks a crucial leap for China in this field, shifting from "technological innovation" to "rule-making", and formally forging a collaborative pattern across the industrial chain. HYDROC TECHNOLOGY will join hands with its partners to contribute Chinese wisdom to the construction of a global standard system for hydrogen-powered UAVs.
