Students from Beihang University embark on a new chapter of hydrogen energy mysteries during the summer vacation

On July 1, 2025, students from the School of Aeronautical Science and Engineering of Beihang University gathered at the Beihang Hangzhou International Innovation Research Institute with great anticipation and enthusiasm, embarking on their summer practice journey at Tianmu Hydroc. This day was filled with novelty and challenges, and also laid a solid foundation for the subsequent practical activities.

The opening ceremony kicked off in a warm atmosphere. The relevant person in charge of Tianmu Hydroc extended a warm welcome to the students and elaborated on the significant position and scientific research achievements of the Tianmu Mountain Laboratory. As an important cooperative enterprise of this practical activity, Tianmu Hydroc is a high-tech company jointly established by Hydroc Technology (Zhejiang) Co., Ltd. and Tianmu Mountain Laboratory. Rooted in the forefront of hydrogen energy, it specializes in the in-depth research and development of high-power airborne hydrogen power systems, as well as the design, production and application of high-performance hydrogen-powered aircraft, aiming to achieve lightweight and high efficiency of power systems. Redefine the performance benchmark and application scenarios of beyond-visual-range flight. Amidst warm applause, the students took the stage one by one to introduce themselves. They come from different majors and grades, filled with passion and anticipation for the aviation industry. Their words reveal their expectations for this practical activity, hoping to combine theoretical knowledge with practical experience in the practice of Tianmu Hydroc, enhance their professional skills, and accumulate valuable experience for their future career development.

In order to help students get to know each other more quickly and enhance team cohesion, the practical activity carefully arranged an ice-breaking game session. The students were divided into three groups and embarked on a journey of tacit understanding full of joy and challenges. During the game, the students interacted actively and collaborated with each other. Laughter and joy echoed throughout the event venue. The originally unfamiliar students gradually became familiar with each other, establishing deep friendships and laying a solid emotional foundation for subsequent practical cooperation.

In the afternoon, Professor Meng Zhijun delivered a wonderful lecture on low-altitude economy. Professor Meng explained the current development status and trends of low-altitude carrier aircraft. He pointed out that the low-altitude economy, as a strategic emerging industry, has developed rapidly in China in recent years, covering multiple fields such as unmanned aerial vehicle logistics and emergency rescue, with broad market prospects. During the lecture, the students gained a more comprehensive and in-depth understanding of the low-altitude economy and further clarified the directions they could strive for in their future practices.

After the opening ceremony, Professor Xu Weiqiang, the person in charge of Tianmu Hydroc, gave the students the first lesson of the summer practice - "The Mystery of Hydrogen Energy". Professor Xu, with his rich knowledge and vivid cases, systematically explained the historical connection between hydrogen and drones, and deeply analyzed the application scenarios of hydrogen-powered drones, including water conservancy inspection and oil and gas pipeline inspection. In these scenarios, hydrogen-powered drones, with their advantages such as ultra-long endurance and strong low-temperature adaptability, can significantly enhance operational efficiency and coverage. Meanwhile, Professor Xu also analyzed the market demand, future development trends and technological changes of hydrogen-powered drones, allowing the students to understand the huge potential and challenges in this field. The students listened attentively, believing that this class had sparked their strong interest in hydrogen energy technology and also pointed out the direction for their subsequent participation in related practical projects.

The first day of practical activities came to an end amid fulfillment and busyness, but the students' steps of exploration have only just begun.
